The canal de la Meuse runs 272 kilometres from its junction with the canal de la Marne au Rhin in the south to the Belgian border at pk 0. After about 100 kilometres it becomes the navigable Meuse but the distance markers don't seem to differentiate between the two navigations. The original markers still show the canal by its first name - canal de l'Est (branche nord).
